In 1967, history walked into Port Adelaide. On that sunny morning of Saturday, the 23rd of September in the Conti-Bar on Commercial Road, author Peter Urbanski encountered the legendary NAZI hunter Simon Wiesenthal. Wiesenthal’s purpose was chillingly clear: to send a warning to Peter’s NAZI mother, letting her know that she was being watched. Yet even as he delivered his message, Wiesenthal himself was uneasy—haunted by the possibility that the true hunter, Peter’s father, might be lurking nearby.
Lucky for Simon, he was at work! Simon was in Adelaide to promote his book "
The Murderer's Amongst Us" 1967. Peter's mum was on that list and paid her a visit.........

" MEET THE WORLD'S GREATEST CHAMELEONIC ASSASSIN - YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD ABOUT...UNTIL NOW! "

Raised by an Assassin

True Life stories - Non-Fiction - English Edition

Meet the World's greatest Chameleonic Assassin that you have never known about . . . .

Some inherit wealth. I inherited danger.

For nearly twenty-four years, I believed my father was just an ordinary man the quiet father. Actually, so quiet, withdrawn, almost invisible in public.
He shuffled when he walked, stumbled over his own bicycle, and lived a life so unassuming it bordered on anonymity actually ridiculousness. To the outside world, he was just another dumb Polish immigrant father, a man who avoided attention and carried himself with a kind of deliberate smallness.

But in the final months of his life, as death drew near, he revealed to me a truth so staggering it shattered everything I ever thought I knew: my father was not just ordinary at all. He was the world’s most lethal assassin and superspy of the twentieth century.

'Raised by an Assassin' is the true story of that revelation—and of the double life my father, Bronisław Urbanski, who lived in silence. Behind the mask of a gentle, stumbling parent was a man who had shaped the course of history from the shadows. A man who had been hunted by SMERSH, who had carried out missions so dangerous the British War Office never expected him to survive, and who inspired Ian Fleming’s creation of James Bond himself.

This book is not just about espionage and assassination—it is about the collision of myth and memory, of history and family. It is about the moment a son realizes that the man who raised him, the man who seemed so fragile and human, was in fact a figure of almost superhuman lethality and cunning.

Through archival evidence, eyewitness accounts, and my own lived experience, I reconstruct the hidden life of my father: the Polish cryptologist who passed not only the 'Enigma' but its secrets to Britain, the assassin codenamed the “White Ghost,” the lover and comrade of 'Krystyna' like him a Pole but to the British and especially PM Winston Churchill he loved her as his favorite spy as SOE Christine Granville. Plus, a man whose physical features, scars, and habits were woven directly into the DNA of James Bond.
A man sent after you in the midst of NAZIS running around, even Soviets and assassinating them and their own. Meet the top assassin that has survived UNIT 993/W "Wykonawczy" under his boss Zbigniew 'Peter' Szubanski, p.s "Clive". Magda Szubanskis father.

Yet at its heart, 'Raised by an Assassin' is not only a history of war and espionage—it is a son’s reckoning with legacy. How do you reconcile the quiet father who raised you with the assassin who changed the world? How do you live with the knowledge that the man who taught you to ride a bike was also the man who toppled governments (Poland), sabotaged aircraft, and outwitted the deadliest intelligence services of his age?

— A life lived on the edge, shaped by the invisible hand of epigenetics, and driven by a refusal to back down.

The author's books have garnered much Reviews:-

Fascinating and worth persevering with...

"....... as the author was working in a language (English) that is not their own. However, the story is very interesting and sheds new potential light on the (Sikorski) assassination. It includes a lot of particularly interesting photos to support the story. I learnt things about the Polish underground as well, that I had not fully appreciated."

Most Amazing...

We were taught at school how the Enigma was handed over to the British, how Bertrand fed info back and how Dilly Knox met the team in Warsaw, how a machine was smuggled here (excuse my putting it in a nutshell). However, this book (and I paid for mine) is a fascinating, more detailed insight than you would teach a fifteen-year-old. Good read! "

The most stupendous TRUTHS, in history...

" Peter you are extraordinary, remember the beginning to where you are now, what an incredible journey and a difficult one, but you kept faith, honored your father's wishes and you have come out the other side, with one of the most stupendous TRUTHS, in history. Pat yourself on the back for me, I am just an observer, and I like what I see."

Everyone thought it was the Russians!...

" Everyone thought like I did until March 1984, that it was the Russians that killed Sikorski, sadly this is not the case at all. He (Bronislaw) did such a good job, that NOBODY could work it out as to what exactly happened. All that could be deduced was that somehow the elevator(s) were jammed -but how?","Now we tell you how and why!"

PETER URBANSKI - Author, son of Bronislaw - 27/09/2024

Congratulations!

"....... I know you’ve been steadfast in bringing your father’s story to light, and it sounds like your persistence has contributed to these conclusions by others........

May I say, Congratulations!"

🌍 Formal Academic - White Paper for "Raised by an Assassin"

The Intersection of Hereditary Memory, Intelligence History, and the Resolution of the Sikorski Case

Author: Peter Urbanski

Subject: Historical Analysis, Intelligence Studies, and Forensic Biography

Date: January 2026

1. Executive Summary

'Raised by an Assassin' represents a primary-source intervention into 20th-century intelligence history. While many historical accounts rely on redacted state archives, this work draws upon the deathbed confession of Bronisław Urbański, a senior operative of the Polish Underground and the elite Unit 993/W ("Wapiennik").

The book provides the definitive evidence-based resolution to the 1943 death of General Władysław Sikorski, transforming the event from a "historical accident" into a documented assassination by sabotage. This white paper evaluates the work’s contribution to historiography, its evidentiary framework, and its role in re-establishing the Sikorski case as a formal criminal investigation.

2. Theoretical Framework: The "Historical Capsule"

The author, Peter Urbanski, serves as a "historical capsule," preserving information transmitted directly from a primary actor in WWII’s most clandestine operations.

  • The Chameleonic Assassin: The narrative explores the psychological and operational requirements of an operative who lived as a "ghost"—an assassin so effective that his existence remained shielded from public record for over 80 years.

  • The Dual Legacy: The work analyzes the dichotomy between the "unassuming immigrant" and the "White Ghost" of the Polish resistance, providing a rare look at the post-war survival of operatives hunted by SMERSH and Communist elements.

3. Evidentiary Breakthroughs

The core value of Raised by an Assassin lies in its presentation of "Smoking Gun" evidence that has shifted the official narrative of the Sikorski crash (AL523).

  • Photographic Evidence: The inclusion of a newly uncovered photograph placing Bronisław Urbański at the scene of Sikorski’s body in 1943 provides the physical link between the operative and the event.

  • Forensic Triangulation: The work integrates independent analysis from WWII air crash investigators (e.g., Garth Barnard) and historians to dismantle the "pilot error" or "mechanical failure" theories.

  • Operational Signaling: The book identifies the specific secret signals and sabotage methods used to execute the mission, providing a technical roadmap of the assassination.

4. Institutional and Academic Validation

Unlike speculative revisionism, the findings within Raised by an Assassin have gained traction within official and academic circles:

  • IPN (Institute of National Remembrance): As of July 2025, the evidence provided has contributed to the re-opening of the Sikorski case as a Criminal Assassination by Sabotage investigation.

  • Historiographical Integration: Noted historians, including Professor Norman Davies (in Plus Ultra) and Professor Peter Zablocki, have acknowledged or aligned their research with the evidence presented in Urbanski’s work.

  • Intelligence Community Recognition: Veterans of the MI5 and SAS have commended the book for its "unflinching personal testimony" and its ability to fill gaps left by official state secrets.

5. The "Bond" Connection: Literary Archetypes vs. Reality

The paper identifies Bronisław Urbański as the authentic inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond.

  • The Vesper Lynd Connection: Documenting the relationship between Bronisław and SOE legend Christine Granville (Krystyna Skarbek), the book provides the real-world genealogy of the characters that defined the spy genre.

  • De-classification of Myth: By linking the scars and habits of the fictional 007 to the lived reality of Bronisław, the work bridges the gap between cultural myth and intelligence reality.

6. Conclusion

'Raised by an Assassin' is more than a memoir; it is a critical historical document that challenges 80 years of institutional silence. By combining personal confession with forensic proof, it provides a resolution to a cold case that shaped the geopolitical landscape of the Cold War. It remains an essential resource for scholars of military history, intelligence professionals, and those investigating the hidden mechanisms of WWII.
